Electric car giant Tesla has said there are no plans to open a factory in India until they are allowed to sell and service cars in India. The stand off between CEO Elon Musk and the Indian government comes down to the idea that Tesla could manufacture cars in China and sell them in India which wouldn’t be a the best financial situation for India. India, who can definitely support production, want to ensure that cars sold by the giant in India contribute to the Indian economy by creating jobs and ultimately suggest it could even bring down the cost of production for Tesla.
Gadkari, the road transport minister, made remarks while speaking at a private event in Delhi answering a question on Tesla’s concerns on “high duties” in India.
“It is a very easy alternative; if Elon Musk is ready to manufacture in India there is no problem. We have got all competencies, the vendors are available. We have got all types of technology and because of that, he can reduce the cost,” Gadkari said.
